Nokia selected as sole end-to-end 3G supplier
for Telia Mobile Finland's network
(September 04, 2001)
Agreement, valued at 60 million
EUR, follows on long-term cooperation in GSM and GPRS.
Nokia and Telia Mobile Finland have agreed on the supply of Telia's 3G network
in Finland. Under the contract, Nokia will be sole supplier of both 3G core- and
radio-access network infrastructure, as well as implementation services. The
contract is part of the Nordic 3G frame agreement Nokia signed with Telia in
June. Deliveries for the Finnish rollout begin immediately.
In addition to network equipment, Nokia will provide its Network Deployment
Package, which covers implementation and project management, and the Nokia
KeyCare(TM) Package, which maintains the competitiveness of the network after
roll-out.
"With this agreement, Telia Mobile will be able to further consolidate our
position in the highly competitive Finnish markets," said Vesa Mars,
Director, Telia Mobile in Finland. "Nokia's advanced and cost-effective 3G
network solution will help us offer our subscribers attractive and cutting-edge
mobile Internet services and applications. We are happy to be starting Telia
Finland's 3G rollout as a part of our Nordic frame agreement with Nokia."
Nokia's long-term cooperation with Telia began when Nokia provided
first-generation (NMT) equipment to Telia in Sweden. Nokia has built upon this
early cooperation by subsequently supplying a GSM 1800 network to Telia Mobile
Finland in 1997, as well as services platforms and Telia's GPRS system in
Finland.
"We are delighted to continue our work with Telia Mobile by facilitating
the roll-out of Telia's Finnish network," said Timo Kotilainen, Vice
President, Customer Operations, Nokia Networks. "Nokia's complete 3G
network solution, including system and service integration capabilities, gives
Telia Mobile the capability to smoothly introduce mobile Internet networks
services with the most advanced solution available."
Nokia's 3G infrastructure is based on the open standards, platforms and
interfaces critical for a smooth evolution to commercial 3G services in a
multi-vendor network. It includes integrated end-to-end solutions covering
charging, security, network management and service control applications, as well
as a complete range of professional services to synchronize the deployment and
network operations process, build the synergies required, and bring 3G networks
to life.
Telia Mobile Finland, owned by Telia Mobile AB, operates a GSM network in
Finland. Telia aims to gain a significant share of the coming 3G market.
