Nokia ensures safe connections

Austrian insurance company selects Nokia VPN and IP
security platforms to protect and extend corporate network
August 7, 2001 - Victoria-Volksbanken, an international insurance company, a
subsidiary of Victoria International, Duesseldorf and Oesterreichische
Volksbanken AG, responsible for its own subsidiaries in Eastern Europe, has
successfully deployed Nokia's virtual private networks (VPN) and IP network
security solutions as a critical element of their network infrastructure. With
the deployment, Victoria-Volksbanken ensures safe communications between the
head office, foreign subsidiaries and mobile employees.
Victoria-Volksbanken is using Nokia's IP Network Security Appliances as firewall
platforms. Additionally, the company has deployed Nokia's dedicated VPN gateways
to securely connect their subsidiaries located in Czech Republic, Slovakia and
Hungary, with the headquarters in Vienna.
"Connectivity requirements between offices and increased need for mobility
made us turn to Nokia. During a comprehensive evaluation period, it became
apparent that Nokia was an obvious choice for us in regard to quality,
cost-effectiveness and performance," says Mr. Harbalik of Victoria-Volksbanken.
"Another important factor was that Nokia's solution will grow with the
company. Scalability is a must because more and more business processes are
carried out over IP networks. Nokia demonstrated to us that their VPN system can
be extended without interruption, hassle or downtime," Mr. Harbalik
continues. He is equally impressed by the ease-of-deployment of the Nokia
solution.
"Installation was extremely smooth and quick. We managed to successfully
implement and deploy the Nokia VPN solution into a branch office and have it up
and running in less than one working day."
With the Nokia IP330 platform, Victoria-Volksbanken was able to create a secure
tunnel from the headquarters in Vienna through the Internet via a fixed
connection of over 500 Kbs to their subsidiaries. In remote offices, the
dedicated Nokia CC500 VPN gateways help users leverage the company's
administration applications running on a server located in the Vienna
headquarters.
Nokia is committed to delivering the highest of standards in security,
reliability, performance and confidence for its customers' needs. The Nokia IP
network application platforms are designed to serve as critical network
components. They deliver Internet access including virtual private networks and
network security applications, such as firewall, in a high-performance package.
Nokia's dedicated end-to-end VPN solutions are based on IPSec specification and
patented IP Clustering technology. These award-winning appliances (December 12,
2000 Network World Fusion Reviews) provide high performance, unlimited network
scalability and bulletproof reliability through Active Session Failover and
Dynamic Load Balancing within a cluster of VPN Gateways. All solutions are fully
backed by Nokia's global support "First Call-Final Resolution".
"Today, enterprises demand secure, reliable, and scalable communications.
They are fundamental for network deployments of all sizes, and become even more
critical for large data corporations or financially associated network
environments", says Ernie Jones, vice president of sales, Europe, Middle
East and Africa, Nokia Internet Communications. "Nokia is pleased to
support Victoria-Volksbanken in building a comprehensive network security and
VPN infrastructure which meets their highest demands and ensures rapid pay-back
versus leased lines."
The Victoria-Volksbanken VPN and IP security platform deployment was undertaken
by My PC Service GmbH, Nokia Internet Communications' value added reseller in
Austria. My PC, located in Vienna, was established in 1995 and is a pioneer in
Internet Security Applications and operates an Internet Security Center for
managed firewall services.
